Ordinary days

I always find it interesting to hear how others spend their days. Here is what my day looks like while on maternity leave and our long-time nanny still coming four afternoons a week:

6am - Stumble awake to feed Sam, sometimes if I'm lucky he can be rocked back to sleep.

7:15am - We start hearing Noah & Max yelling (why do they yell? I have no idea) and brace ourselves for the mad dash of footsteps bursting in our room.

8:00am - Terah leaves for the day and I'm on my own to fight the morning routine. It's a good day if we are all clothed, fed, lunch is packed, and shoes/sunscreen on by 8:30.

9:00am - Always late to drop Noah off at preschool, but since it took over 1.5 hrs to get everyone out the door to our preschool located 5 min away, I am determined to stay out and do something.

9-11am - I take Max and Sam to the park, run errands, or meet with friends. Sam naps on me in the ergo and usually Max the Wanderer just wanders.

11:30am - Lunch at home

12:15pm - Pick up Noah from school. Another half hour to extricate him for the school playground.

1:30-3:30pm - Glorious quiet time for Noah and naps for Max and Sam. If I'm lucky, I get to lie down and catch up on emails.

3:45pm - Quick shower.

4:30-5:30pm - By this time of the day, Noah and Max are bouncing off the walls (literally) and poor Sam wants another nap. I try to take the older boys or sometimes all three out for a quick breather at a nearby park.

5:30pm - Dinner for Noah and Max while Sam naps or fusses.

6:30pm - I eat dinner with either one or two kids somehow always ending up in my lap. Noah and Max run laps in our house.

7pm - Hooray! Terah's home. Bath and bedtime routine begins.

8pm - Kids down, and our nightly battle to keep kids down begins.

8:30 - 10pm - Clean up the chaos, catch up with Terah, and eat popcorn.

10pm - Pump milk.

10:30pm - In bed.... only we will be getting up multiple times a night because Noah needs us to fix his blanket, Max has lost his ducky, and Sam still wants to nurse and we don't have the resolve to fully sleep train him yet.

Most days I wonder if I've done ANYTHING. Except to lose my temper at Noah, referee fights and rock a crying baby. I am reminded the days are long but the years are short.  I have loved this time with my family!
