6 Months

Six months, wow! Now that Max is well out of the newborn stage (not my favorite age group) it just gets better and better.

He outgrew his reflux around 4 months and we haven't looked back since.

Sleep has improved, with the good nights (just one waking!) outnumbering the bad. I am sure this will last only until he gets sick/starts teething/we travel/goes through a developmental spurt again.

I am slow to wean him from his last night feeding as I savor the nighttime snuggles.

When you catch his gaze, he readily lights up with a huge grin.

He is a sweet unflappable baby and we are fully enjoying the chubs and rolls!

Moving forward

I have been back at work for several weeks now, but due to some recent changes I am now unemployed for three whole days and it feels GREAT.

On Monday my maternity leave will really be over. It was no vacation, but I am incredibly grateful for such an extended and uninterrupted time helping Max get started on life and giving us space to adjust to the new rhythms of our family.

As we move into this next stage, I will hold these past few months with them close to me. What a joy these two boys are to us!

School pictures

Noah missed his fall school pictures because he was out sick, and we forgot to dress him up for his spring pictures, but these were taken pre-ER-knocked-teeth-out and so are extra special to us now...

Live higher, live deeper

It has been an incredibly hard two weeks for several of our friends, the loss of a young husband and father, the passing of a precious beautiful child.  Our hearts ache in sadness. I move through my days trying to make sense of such senseless grief, but there is no answer.  Only that we must live higher, live deeper, and cling to what matters.

San Diego vacation

For one last hurrah before the end of my maternity leave, we took a week long road trip down to San Diego

Lots of pit stops on the road

Obengs we thought of you when we had lunch here in the middle of nowhere in California...

Our vacation pad splurge

Grace and David joined us for the weekend, and we loved having a live-in babysitter

Help me, I don't know why that crazy lady above is giving me those faces...

We ate very well

La Jolla farmer's market just around the corner with the best waffle I've ever had

Dinner date - my sister recommended a sushi restaurant with extremely fresh seafood. So fresh in fact that this shrimp head above MOVED! (Yes I screamed)

Evening stroll to the beach

To see the sea lions

And the highlight of the trip - Legoland!

Where Noah discovered the ride of his life

Just for 3-5 year olds, they drive completely on their own and push their own gas pedal

By the end of the morning Noah was cutting other cars off and speeding past them. We let Noah go back a second day where he drove seven more times

More beach time

Rooftop sunset view and ice cream

Max was a first-runny-nose-definitely-teething-maybe-reflux hot mess and I had to do five loads of laundry on vacation, but it was still great to get away as a family and press the reset button on our regular life!
