Fat and happy

I'm just going to put it out there that I fully expect this next boy of ours to be fat and happy. The first was skinny and grouchy, and I believe some balance is in order.

So far there have been some similarities - my pregnancy face (aka double chin) is back, I like taco bell, and I have to take iron supplements.

But with Noah, I made the mistake of praying for an interesting child... lesson learned! I also stopped fitting into my pants at 10 wks this time, whereas it took until 5 months with Noah. Here's to hoping the next one will be a little less like me and more like his calm and easy going dad. Case in point:

Pumpkins pumpkins everywhere

Webb Ranch

While there we happened to run into our neighbor and friends, Jessie, Jack and Cosette. They were having a picnic lunch and generously invited Noah to join in the snacks. The pretzel sticks were a big hit.

Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival

The real pumpkin was $15 a picture, so we went for the fake and free pumpkin.

The big 3-0

Every year Diana and I celebrate our birthdays one day apart. For the big thirty, we headed to Vegas for dirty D's bachelorette!

These girls have known me since I was twelve, and although we don't see each other as often as our high school days, they always know how to have a good time and we had a blast.

Let's just call these the "edited" photos of the weekend...

Whoa momma my belly is huge

Alice was the planner extraordinaire, she thought of EVERYTHING. Even my bubbly lemonade...

You know you're experiencing the classic ignored second-child syndrome when you've lost track of how far along you are - sometime in my 2nd trimester?

A glimpse into family dynamics

This morning, apparently both Noah and I woke up in a bad mood (I'd like to suggest my bad mood was caused by his waking). Terah was out for a run, and this is what he came home to, from an email he wrote me later that day:

"It's funny how alike you and Noah are sometimes and when your personalities collide it's even funnier.  like this morning!  I have a crying Noah and a scowling mommy.  what a scene.  but i love my family and wouldn't trade it for anything."

Our loss

It has taken me awhile to find the words, but in late April, I had a miscarriage.  Oh how much I would have given to have kept that littlest of life. It does something to you to lose a child, even one you knew of so briefly.

This blog is the only semblance of a family record we have, and our second baby will be a part of our family always. I am humbled by the truest of friends who cried with me and family who took care of us.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

Isaiah 61:1-3

I love you and a part of me will always long to meet you.
